“La mexicana Malinche como madre de todos los mestizos se convirtió en una expresión posindependentista de categorías coloniales de clase, raza y género… Su emergencia como traidora fue vista por primera vez en Xicoténcatl, una novela publicada en Filadelfia, en 1826. Sin embargo, no fue sino hasta la dictadura mexicana de Porfirio Díaz (1884-1911) que su mito como madre de todos los mestizos se tejió en la narrativa oficial de la nación a través de libros de historia, novelas y gráfica popular”
The mexican icon “Malinche as mother of all "mestizos" (people of mixed race) became a post-independence expression of colonial class, race, and gender categories… Her emergence as a traitor was first seen in Xicoténcatl, a novel published in Philadelphia, in 1826. However, it was not until the Mexican dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz (1884-1911) that her myth as the mother of all mestizos was settled into the official narrative of the nation through history books, novels, and popular graphics.
